I’m gonna get right to the point here: Are you fucking kidding me? You’re telling me a supposedly well-respected voting body decided that Jodie Foster was better in ‘True Detective: Night Country’ than Cristin Milioti was in ‘The Penguin’ last night? I find that incredibly hard to believe. I don’t think said-voting body watched both shows; I think they saw a legacy name like Jodie Foster and checked the box instantly rather than give a “comic book show” the time of day.
I was actually one of the FOOLISH defenders of ‘True Detective: Night Country’ who put my faith in the showrunners and trusted the payoff would be worth the build up too – BUT IT WASN’T!!! As KenJac pointed out on Twitter last night, the “reveal” (SPOILERS) was that a group of janitor ladies pulled off the murder/heist of the century….
I still don’t think Jodie Foster was “bad” in the series, but she certainly wasn’t anything special. There isn’t a single moment I could point to that was very memorable or even close to the heights of Foster’s potential – and MEANWHILE, there’s about a dozen of those Milioti moments in Episode 4 of ‘The Penguin’ alone! From her scenes as Carmine’s sweetheart daughter to her stint in Arkham, to her release/running the family mafia, she showed range that was incredible and depth that was unmatched.
Even Richard Roeper, one of the most respected critics in the history of the entertainment business, agrees….
I’m happy that Colin Farrell pulled off the upset and got his Golden Globe for his role as Oz Cobb, and his speech/post-win presser was awesome….
….but I wanted the full sweep last night. Milioti deserved to give a speech as much as he did, and the show losing to ‘Baby Reindeer’ was bullshit as well. I didn’t watch ‘Baby Reindeer’ but I don’t know anybody who saw both and preferred that weird ass show. The Golden Globes are a SHAM, though, and always have been. Shame on me for ever thinking they’d be anything different than that last night. Hopefully the EMMYs get it right later this year.
P.S. Shoutout Carolina in Craft Services….
