American cinephiles everywhere just added a new movie to their watch list: I’m Still Here, the Brazilian drama that nabbed a surprise bid for Best Picture in the 2025 Oscar nominations this morning. But before you feel bad that you haven’t yet seen—or maybe haven’t even heard about—this Best Picture nominee, you should know that the movie doesn’t even open wide in the U.S. for three more weeks. It’s not your fault!
Directed by Walter Salles, with a screenplay written by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega, I’m Still Here depicts the true story of Eunice Pavia, a Brazilian lawyer and activist whose husband, Rubens Paiva, was disappeared after defying the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1960s. The film was adapted from Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s 2015 memoir that he wrote about his mother.
Brazilian actor Fernanda Torres stars in the film as a young Eunica Pavia, and also earned her own nomination for Best Actress for her performance. I’m Still Here was also nominated for Best International Feature, bring its nomination total up to three. A big win for Brazil! But for those of us in America who are out of the loop, here’s what to know about where to watch the I’m Still Here movie.

I’m Still Here is not yet available on streaming, because it only just opened in limited theaters in the U.S. on January 17, 2025. You can find a screening in Los Angeles or New York via Fandango.
Right now, the only place in the U.S. to watch I’m Still Here is in select theaters in Los Angeles and New York. You can find a screening at one of those cities via Fandango. I’m Still Here will expand to theaters nationwide in U.S. in three weeks time, on February 14, 2025.
In other words, you will have to go to the movie theater if you want to see I’m Still Here before the Oscars ceremony, which is on March 2. That said, if you don’t mind waiting, we do expect to see I’m Still Here streaming on Netflix eventually, because the film is being released by Sony, and most Sony movies do end up on Netflix.
I’m Still Here will likely be on Netflix sometime around summer 2025. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Other recent Sony movies, including Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Garfield Movie, came to Netflix about four months after opening in theaters.
If I’m Still Here follows this same release pattern, you can expect I’m Still Here to stream on Netflix around mid-June 2025, aka four months after the movie opens wide in theaters next month. That said, the release strategy may be different, given that this is an international title. If you want to see the film ASAP, you’ll want to catch it in theaters when it opens nationwide on February 14, 2025.
