New Delhi: In a major strategic move, billionaire Elon Musk has suggested that his platform X might launch a new email feature called “Xmail.” According to the reports, the idea came after an X user, DodgeDesigner, posted that “Xmail” would be a “cool” addition. Elon Musk, known for his frequent interactions with users on the platform, replied, “Yeah, on the list of things to do.” Once launched, Xmail will directly compete with Gmail and other email services.
Apple Mail currently dominates the global email market with a staggering 53.67 percent share as of September 2024, while Gmail holds 30.70 percent. Other popular services include Outlook (4.38%), Yahoo! Mail (2.64%), and Google Android (1.72%).
The announcement stirred enthusiasm among Musk’s followers and users on X. Supporters embraced the concept, with some proposing additional innovative ideas. Gunther Eagleman wrote, “How about the xPhone? We’re all ready for 1.” Another user urged Musk to act quickly, saying, “Yes, please make this happen ASAP. Sick and tired of the stranglehold Google has on everything. Free email like you freed X!”
Elon Musk’s vision for expanding X aligns with his goal of transforming the platform into an “everything app.” If Xmail comes to fruition, it has the potential to disrupt the global email industry significantly.
