Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady squared off in a Welterweight contest earlier tonight (Sat., March 22, 2025) at UFC London from The 02 Arena in London, England.
Right away, the two top contenders were standing their ground and trading shots. Edwards landed some cracking counters early, and Brady’s first two clinch attempts saw him eat knees. Brady fired a combo and landed a right hand. Edwards caught a kick and countered well, sweeping the leg across and firing a right hook. Time and time again, Edwards used his forehead to control the clinch and prevent any kind of wrestling from his opponent. With 20 seconds remaining, Brady countered a knee and foot swept his opponent, a beautiful transition to gain top position.
Brady stormed out of the gate to start round two with a double, forcing Edwards to the floor. He settled in side control for a moment then moved into back mount when “Rocky” tried to scramble. Movement absolutely stalled when Brady locked in the body triangle. Edwards finally recovered guard with a couple minutes remaining but was still thoroughly stuck. Brady started attacking the kimura, using the threat to advance into back mount once more.
Edwards survived, but it was a dominant round from the American athlete.
Aware of what just happened, Edwards started the third with clean uppercut and elbow counter connections, standing his ground more firmly. He then stuffed a takedown and made a critical error by trying his own shot, as Brady grabbed his neck and forced him to bottom position. Brady’s top pressure and control was absolutely smothering, as Edwards couldn’t improve his position at all. Any time Edwards scrambled, he ended up in a worse spot! Brady never came close to a finish of any kind, but it was another round of dominance.
Brady fired some punches, backed Edwards into the fence, and scored a double leg within the opening minute. It was way too easy for him! Brady started attacking a guillotine from top half guard, cutting into mount. Edwards desperately tried to fight hands, but the strangle was locked in, and he was forced to tap moments later.
The English fans hated it, but this was an outstanding performance from Sean Brady. As soon as he turned it up in round two and really committed to his takedowns, he absolutely dominated the fight. Better yet, he became the first man to finish Edwards, which greatly improves his position moving forward.
I don’t know if it’s enough to leapfrog Shavkat Rakhmonov, but Brady is now a bonafide title threat.
Result: Brady defeats Edwards via guillotine choke
