Bridge and road closure updates following winter storm

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – As winter weather hits the panhandle, roadways and bridges may close.

Here are the most recent updates on local bridges:

BAY COUNTY

Effective immediately, roadways and bridges in Bay County should be considered unsafe and impassable to the general public until further notice.

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford also encouraged everyone to stay off roadways if possible and noted that any bridge closures will be determined by Florida Highway Patrol in conjunction with local law enforcement and Emergency Services.

Similar to in hurricane situations, law enforcement and barricades will NOT be posted at the base of the closed bridges, he said, but crossing a closed bridge is extremely dangerous.

Announcements about bridge closures will be made through AlertBay, social media pages and on the county’s website at baycountyfl.gov. If major bridge closures occur in the middle of the night, the alerts will come through via email or text only, so make sure you have notifications set to receive those. Alertbay is available at www.alertbay.org.
