It’s finally here! Four years ago, Taylor Swift released “Lover” – her seventh studio album – and along with it the track “Cruel Summer” . The song has always been a fan favorite, but was never released as a single , however, that is about to change. The song will be promoted and should make an impact on pop radio in the United States soon. Will we have a music video?
“Lover” was officially released in 2019 and received very divided opinions among specialized critics. During initial promotion, the album featured the singles “Me!” (feat. Brendon Urie ), “You Need To Calm Down” , the title track and “The Man” . However, “Cruel Summer” has always been a fan favorite.
With the start of “The Eras Tour” and Swifties singing the track at the top of their lungs, the song’s popularity grew even more and it is already charting in the Top 10 of music platforms in several countries. This Friday (16), the track reached #15 on Spotify Global with no less than 2.7 million streams recorded in the last 24 hours.
Four years later, it looks like “Cruel Summer” will finally receive the same treatment as her sisters. According to Billboard , Republic Records – the artist’s current record label – will begin officially promoting the song to pop radio stations starting Tuesday, June 20th.
The US site also claims that its impact should be strong, as the song could debut on the Pop Airplay chart in a week or two, which ranks the tracks that reach the biggest audience on US pop radio every week.
It is worth noting that the track returned to the Billboard Hot 100 (position #47 ), after having reached position #29 , when the album was released.
