Former LSU football player Kyren Lacy caused a deadly crash in Lafourche Parish and is now wanted on a count of negligent homicide, State Police said Friday.
Troopers are in communication with Lacy and his attorney to turn himself in, the agency said in a news release.
The crash happened on Dec. 17, 2024, on La. 20 near Perez Lane in Lafourche Parish. Lacy, who was driving south in a 2023 Dodge Charger, “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a no-pass zone,” the release said.
As the driver of a northbound pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid a collision with Lacy, the driver behind the truck took evasive action and crossed the centerline, striking a southbound Kia Sorrento head on, police said.
Lacy, 24, drove around the crash scene without stopping to help, call emergency services or report his part in the crash, according to troopers.
A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Lacy through the Lafourche Parish 17th Judicial District Court for counts of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.
LSU spokesperson Zach Greenwell said, “We have no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process.”
The investigation is ongoing, State Police said.
Lacy graduated in December and was not participating in practices for the Texas Bowl at the time of the crash, LSU said. He posted an announcement about entering the 2025 NFL Draft two days later. Lacy did not have any remaining college eligibility.
Lacy was a three-star recruit from Thibodaux High and began his career at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He played two seasons before transferring to LSU. Lacy caught 112 passes for 1,692 yards and 16 touchdowns in three years with the Tigers.
LSU’s leading receiver as a senior last season, Lacy recorded a career-high 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. Lacy, who is 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds, was expected to be picked in the NFL draft. He accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl in February.
