Georgia falls to Notre Dame in CFP Quarterfinals

Georgia’s season comes to a close in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, falling to Notre Dame 23-10.

The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs fall to No. 7 Notre Dame 23-10 in the Quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff.In his first career collegiate start, Soph. QB Gunner Stockton found occasional success but struggled to put points on the board throughout, going 20/32 for 234 yards and one touchdown.Speaking of points — they were certainly hard to come by early in the 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl, as both teams entered the second quarter still scoreless.It wasn’t until Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard took matters into his own hands that the Fighting Irish started moving the ball against Georgia’s defense.Leonard totaled 80 yards on the ground, finishing the day 15/24 for just 90 yards and one touchdown.The turning point in the game came late in the second quarter with Georgia’s offense backed up deep in Irish territory. Stockton was strip sacked from behind, recovered by Notre Dame — setting their offense up inside the 15 where they found paydirt for the first time all afternoon on the very next play.The Irish followed that momentum-changing play up by taking back the opening kick of the second half 98-yards to the house, creating a 20-3 lead that proved insurmountable for Georgia to come back from.The Dawgs would make some noise in the second half, as Stockton found RB Cash Jones on a 32-yard touchdown with nine minutes left in the third quarter to pull the game within 10.But when Notre Dame needed a big play, Riley Leonard rose to the occasion time and time again.Georgia finishes the season 11-3, while the Fighting Irish improve to 13-1 and advance to face No. 4 Penn State in the Capital One Orange Bowl on January 9th.
