LEER EN ESPAÑOL | ‘VETE A CASA’ — La Casa Blanca retira el idioma español de su sitio web
Minutes after Donald Trump took the Oath of Office to become the 47th President of the United States, the White House’s website was re-vamped, including the removal of a Spanish language section.
The landing page for the White House’s Spanish language communications similarly went dark in 2017, but had been restored in 2021 during President Joe Biden’s tenure.
Whenever you try to access the defunct Spanish page, it says “404” and “PAGE NOT FOUND.” A button directing back to the home page reads “GO HOME.”
Cada vez que intenta acceder a la difunta página en español, dice “404” y “PÁGINA NO ENCONTRADA.” Un botón que dirige a la página de inicio dice “VETE A CASA.”
Back during the 2016 campaign trail, Trump said in a debate that immigrants in the US “have to speak English” and that the US “is a country where we speak English, not Spanish.
Now featured on the home page of the website is a 30-second hype video and portrait of Trump, along with a quote:
“Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”
Biden’s archived White House website, alongside saved social media posts, is available online through the National Archives.
