‘Just spreading Christmas cheer’; Feast of Sweets returned just in time for the holiday season

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Christmas spirit was booming at the Chuck Mathena Center on the evening of Friday, December 13th, 2024 in Princeton.

Christmas trees were up, ornaments were displayed, and everyone came dressed with their favorite Christmas sweater. All to bring in this years Feast of Sweets program.

Sam Shelton is this year’s choir director. In fact, this is his first time being the director of such an event.

“I was telling them today at the Rotary Club of what an honor it is to be the director of this group who are known for their talents. Just spreading Christmas cheer throughout this community this time of the year.”

Feast of Sweets is an annual Princeton Christmas tradition, going back at least 20 years.

The goal for the program is simple, spreading Christmas joy to anyone who wishes to watch the show.

The show incorporates a jazz band, a drama team, and so much more. The show is presented thanks to Princeton Senior High School Fine Arts Department.

Even to this day, students are happy to carry on the festive program.

“It’s definitely been a short but very long four years. But it’s exciting and sad in the same way but I’m looking forward to it. I try to help all I can so we can be the best that we can and in the Magicals, I try to help everyone out so that we can be the best that we can.”

In all, more than 100 students are involved in the program. Combined with the hundreds that were in attendance, it was a magical night for all involved.

Shelton thanked the students for all of their hard work and hopes to continue the Christmas legacy for years to come.

“These are good kids. However, we do start early in the season of putting this together and rehearing the songs. When it comes time for the Feast of Sweets, we’re pretty well set and ready to go.”
