Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, stars of the 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet have remained close throughout their lives, even filing a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures. In a statement shared on Instagram and with Vulture, Whiting fondly remembered his Juliet after the news of her death broke on Friday: “Olivia, We have shared so much since we were two sweet innocent children clinging onto each other for dear life as every photo of us attests to. You have never been frightened of fighting to fix everything wrong in this world. Rest now my beautiful Juliet no injustices can hurt you now. And the world will remember your beauty inside and out forever.”
Her daughter, actress India Eisley, posted a childhood photo of her and her mother alongside a message remembering her, “You handled so many hardships with such grace and strength, and always made me feel safe no matter what was happening around us. I hope to make you proud. You will always be my everything…” Hussey’s husband, David Glen Eisley, shared a photo of the two holding hands with their wedding rings, writing, “My best friend for 35 precious years. Mother of our beautiful daughter India. Day 1 of Alex, Max, India & my strange & Bewildering new life. Thank you all for your love.”
