Magnitude 3.8 earthquake reported this morning (WJAR)
(WJAR) — An earthquake just off the coast of Maine was felt in Massachusetts and Rhode Island Monday morning. The rumbling was felt shortly after 10:20 AM from central Maine all the way down to Rhode Island.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was roughly 7 miles southeast of York Harbor, Maine.
The USGS dataset suggests that this was the strongest earthquake to rattle New England since 2012. There have only been two stronger earthquakes recorded in New England since the start of the 21st century.
Originally reported as a 4.1 magnitude earthquake, USGS has now deemed it a magnitude 3.8 tremor.
Residents in Mansfield and Attleboro reported feeling the earthquake as well.
According to the United States Geological Survey, anything under 5.4 is considered a minor earthquake. So far, there has not been any reported damage or injuries.
