Netflix’s Best 2025 Show Regains #1 Spot In The Top 10 List

American Primeval

Netflix

I just went over the fact that it seems like WWE Monday Night RAW is going to be the #1 show on Netflix probably every Monday for the foreseeable future. But it drops off very rapidly, and that’s what’s just happened, allowing a hugely successful 2025 show to reclaim the top spot for about the fourth time this year.

That would be American Primeval, which is now once again #1, passing RAW and reclaiming that spot from XO Kitty season 2. American Primeval has been a massive hit for Netflix, and since its debut on January 9, has been the top show on Netflix’s top 10 list about 95% of the time, and has not dropped by below #2 from what I can tell, at least in the US. It has not done as well outside the US, however, as XO Kitty dominates those charts right now. It has in fact been released globally, which was my first thought about it not ranking as high. Though I suppose “American” is right in the name, perhaps limiting its appeal.

This reign, however, ends tomorrow. That marks the return of The Night Agent for season 2, where season 1 was the seventh most popular English-language show in the history of the service. Season 2 will no doubt instantly arrive at #1, and it may stay there for longer than American Primeval did. I will be tracking that soon enough once it arrives, and season 3 of that show has already been greenlit back in December with Netflix knowing that season 2 will have big viewership.

As for season 2 of American Primeval, that’s not happening, as the original is a limited miniseries. However, there’s catch here in terms of the fact that the creators have spoken openly about the likely prospect of doing a prequel show focused on Taylor Kitsch’s Isaac. Given the performance of the show, I have to believe this is almost a sure thing if everyone can get back on board, but it may be a bit trickier to sort that out compared to just straight up announcing a follow-up season that ended conclusively.

American Primeval reviewed just okay, but was a bigger hit among audiences, and it really does not matter that much what critics say about any given show or film on Netflix, unless something is totally awful, which American Primeval isn’t. The Night Agent season 1 also reviewed good-not-great, and that’s guaranteed to be a huge hit.

So, American Primeval has had a stellar two-week run on top. This performance should greenlight whatever prequel they want to make, but given that it’s just in the concept phase, it may take some time to arrive.
