Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s pursuit of the NFL single-season rushing record took a hit last weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Barkley, though, faces the Washington Commanders Sunday with a chance to get back on track.
The Commanders have allowed 1,850 yards this season or 132.1 yards per game. Those totals put them in 26th place against the run out of 32 teams. In the Eagles 28-16 victory over the Commanders on Nov. 14, Barkley rushed for 146 yards.

Barkley has rushed for 1,688 yards in 14 games this season. He set the Eagles’ single-season rushing record in the fourth quarter against the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 8, breaking LeSean McCoy’s record of 1,607 yards in 2013. He also broke Wilbert Montgomery’s record for most 100-yard games in a season with his ninth of the season.

Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson rushed for a record of 2,105 yards in 1984 when he played for the Los Angeles Rams.

To break the record, Barkley needs 417 yards over the season’s final three games.
After 14 games, Barkley is averaging 120.6 yards per game. He’d need to average about 139 yards per game over the final three games to break the record.

Saquon Barkley starts fast against the Commanders
Barkley took his first handoff of the game and broke it off for a 19-yard gain that moved the Eagles to the Commanders’ 30-yard line. On his second carry, he broke off a 13-yard gain putting the Eagles at the Commanders’ 5-yard line. He followed it with a 4 yard run before a 1-yard touchdown run.
During the series, Barkley crossed the 2,000 total yards from scrimmage mark for the season. He became the fourth Eagles to break the 2,000-yard mark. The others were:

- Brian Westbrook – 2,014 yards in 2014
- LeSean McCoy – 2,146 yards in 2013
Saquon Barkley breaks 100 yards in first quarter
After limited use on the Eagles’ next two drives, Barkley broke away for a 68-yard touchdown run, his second score of the day. The run gave Barkley his 10th 100-yard game of the season.
