Update 22:00 GMT: CD Projekt Red has confirmed to TheGamer that Ciri is played by Ciara Berkeley in the trailer for The Witcher 4, not Jo Wyatt. The studio then further clarified that Berkeley will also be playing Ciri in the full game. This report has been updated to reflect this.
- Fans were quick to notice that Ciri sounds quite different this time, perhaps recast for the new game.
- CD Projekt Red has told us that this is true, with actor Ciara Berkeley now playing Ciri.
More than two years after The Witcher 4 was first announced, we finally have a cinematic trailer. As many fans speculated, the trailer confirms that Ciri is the new protagonist, taking over from Geralt, who led the first three games.
It’s been almost a decade since the last game, The Witcher 3, so fans are understandably excited to finally have something on the sequel – and even more so to know that they’ll be playing as Ciri. However, there’s one thing about the trailer that has now been confirmed: Ciri isn’t played by Jo Wyatt.

CDPR confirms that Ciri is played by Irish actor Ciara Berkeley in the trailer
Responding to TheGamer’s inquiry about Ciri’s voice in the trailer, a representative of CD Projekt Red had this to say:
Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.
While the wording here only refers to the trailer, the representative further clarified that Berkeley will also be playing Ciri in the full game, ruling out Wyatt’s return as the character.

At the very least, we now know that Ciri is indeed the protagonist. This was largely assumed after the teaser image for The Witcher 4 showed a medallion that was different to Geralt’s, suggesting that he won’t be the lead. This was further supported by CDPR referring to the next Witcher game as being part of a new trilogy, and a good starting point for new players.
The trailer didn’t give us a release date, but CDPR has hinted at one. A couple of weeks ago, joint CEO Michał Nowakowsk said that the team doesn’t want to reveal a game when it’s more than two years away from release. With The Witcher 4 being revealed last night, then that should mean it will be a 2026 release at the very worst.
