Tyler, the Creator Freestyles Over Kendrick’s “Hey Now”

Tyler, The Creator has released a freestyle of Kendrick Lamar’s “Hey Now” off GNX. Check it out above.

On Christmas Day, Tyler gifted his fans the brand new freestyle, in which he rhymes over one of the standout tracks on K Dot’s GNX. Alongside the freestyle, Tyler directed an official music video that finds the rapper spitting bars and dancing in the street in various locations in his hometown of Hawthorne, California.

Tyler flexes all over his peers on the freestyle as he mentions being focused on money and showing off his riches, such as his luxury car collection and more. He even referenced his viral appearance at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert in Los Angeles in June.

“Lil bunny hop out, you seen me at the pop out / Pandemonium screaming like they brought pac out / Stop it with the chit chat we airing out the kickback / Big stud energy the way I get my lick back / Hey now say now I’m all about my bands / Shit I’m on bitch you wouldn’t understand,” raps Tyler.

At the end of the video, there is a touching moment when Tyler links up with his old Odd Future brothers, Taco and Jasper, and they all attempt to ride a bike together up an empty street.

In a recent conversation with Billboard, Tyler revealed he almost missed out on the Pop Out concert as he was in Atlanta working on his latest album, Chromakopia. However, he knew he had to be there to share in the historical moment.

“I wasn’t even supposed to go — I was in Atlanta working on this album,” Tyler told Billboard. “But I landed that morning and couldn’t miss this shit.”

He continued, “And I don’t even get FOMO at all, nigga — I’ll go to sleep. But I’m cool with Kenny and Dave [Free] and Tim [Hinshaw] from Free Lunch. So I went home, showered and ran straight there.”

In addition to gifting fans the “Hey Now” freestyle, Tyler also celebrated the anniversary of his debut studio album, Bastard. The album kickstarted Tyler’s career, and he explained in a tweet how different that time was for him.

“BASTARD released 15 years ago. thank you to everyone who listened to anything over the years. was in such a different zone musically and as a person, but was determined to be who i am today. full of gratitude cause it all came true. earl and i got to do ASSMILK; i did ODD TODDLERS at coachella main stage how wild?!? this album was made at ages 16-18. what a time. thank you,” Tyler tweeted.
