After 40 days in theaters, “Wicked” is now available to stream from video-on-demand (VOD) retailers, including Prime Video.
Based on the long-running Broadway musical of the same name (and the novel that inspired it), “Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” that explores the life of the Wicked Witch of the West before her encounter with Dorothy and a bucket of water. Named Elphaba in the musical and film, the Wicked Witch is played by Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo.
Green goes good — er, well — with pink, and Erivo fits perfectly with her co-star Ariana Grande, who portrays the iconic Glinda the Good.

In addition to near-universal acclaim, Erivo and Grande both received Golden Globe nominations for their work in the film.
While the Golden Globes won’t be decided until later this weekend, “Wicked” is available to watch at home right now, just in time to ring in the new year.
“Wicked” is streaming on platforms like Prime Video now! The “Wicked” digital release date was December 31, 2024.
“Wicked” will be available for digital purchase on Prime Video. The film costs $29.99 to buy or $19.99 to rent.
While you won’t have to be a paid Amazon Prime member to buy or rent “Wicked” digitally, you will need at least a free Amazon account; that way, you can return to watch “Wicked” when you want to.
Digital purchases will live in your account indefinitely to be watched and rewatched as much as you’d like, while you’ll have 30 days to start a rental and 48 hours to finish it once you’ve pressed play.
Eventually, “Wicked” will make its way to Peacock as it’s a Universal Pictures film, though no specific date has been announced yet.
The theatrical release to Peacock streaming date window has historically varied by title, but another big Universal film from 2024, “Twisters,” came to Peacock in mid-November, about four months after its July theatrical release.
It could be March, which would follow the “Twisters” timing; it could be later than March, but it could also be earlier.
Purchasing “Wicked” from Prime Video will come with over three hours of bonus features. They include:

While no concrete date has been set, “Wicked” will likely stay in theaters through at least the end of January, especially with awards season heating up and Oscar nominations being announced on January 17.
Yes, “Wicked” is being released in two parts. “Wicked” part two, newly retitled “Wicked: For Good,” will hit theaters on November 21, 2025. The second part will cover Act Two of the musical.
Physical media collectors, do not fear: “Wicked” will be making its way to 4K UHD discs, Blu-ray, and standard DVD on February 4, but you can preorder your copy today.
